Earth Body

Curated by Heather Bird Harris and Erin Drakeford

Echo Contemporary

Atlanta, GA, November 7 - 14, 2022

Works by Evan Blackwell, Erin Drakeford, Cheyenne Hendrickson, Heather Bird Harris, and Michelle Laxalt

Earth Body explores the relatively fleeting relationship between human life and the natural world.

The exhibition is a meditation on the power of organic forms, whether as vessels of possibility or as means of destruction. Drawing from their experience of the interconnected degradation of women’s bodies and the earth, the artists also highlight the positives of that parallelism: transformation, beauty, and innate power.

Each work attempts to freeze time along with the natural movement of water, organisms, light, and relationships, originating from each artist’s deep appreciation of the present and simultaneous fear of the future, or as Michelle Laxalt puts it, “the fascinating and dreadful realization that everything is connected and nothing lasts.”
